I was about to mention this! Drove to Indiana years ago and ran into I believe 3 tolls, all in one state, on a small stretch of the interstate. (Illinois)
Drove all the way down to Oklahoma (just across the border) from North Dakota a few times, not a single toll on I29.
The only time I really pay for a toll is across this one bridge in the North Fargo/Moorhead area. I pay it because it's the quickest and shortest route to see my girlfriend who lives in Moorhead. By the time I get to Fargo (a 4 hour drive), I just want to get to her house rather than drive around the toll bridge. It's only $0.75, a far cry from the $70 in gas it takes me to get there and back.
