In the 60's & early 70's the Federal "Turnpike" system was financed on bonds and other financial devices that were re-paid through tolls. When the roads were paid for the states kept up the tolls to supposedly pay for upkeep and improvements. Supposedly a "pay to play" scenario.
In Orlando, the Bee Line Expressway cuts right through the center of town with toll booths every 2 or 3 miles. Quickest way to the Airport from Canaveral/Titusville or the Florida Turnpike. Or, at least it used to be.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken on the facts.
