Oil for camaro V6

The best oil to use on a 2010, 2011 and 2012 V6 is the same oil recommended by GM for the V8 - Mobil 1 5W-30. Mobil 1 oil has been specially designed for GM LS family of engines. Heavy weight oils and higher viscosity oils are not recommended as they increase oil pressure (damaging seals) and they take more time and effort to circulate and lubricate the engine parts.

For example, the LS6 block has more efficient oiling passages than the LS1 block. Back in 2001, my friend started to use other synthetic oil on his camaro SS (LS1). In a few years, some of the seals are leaking. Royal Purple and AMSOIL make good systhetic oil also. But if you pour them into a glass beaker, you will notice that for the same 5W-30, Mobil 1 5W-30 is the thinnest, as noted by other members of this forum. Unlike the old days, all the modern 5W-30 or 5W-20 synthetic oils does not break down with combustion chamber temperature up to 235+ degree celsius. The Mobil 1 oil has high sulfated ash content as determined by ASTM testing method - a high degree of detergents to dissolve sludge, etc. With all that said, I am sticking with Mobil 1 5W-30.

With that said, I am sticking with Mobil 1 5W-30.
