Here's an interesting bit of info... Some time last year I received an email from a Chinese exhaust manufacturer that said they had Camaro headers... Just for kicks I told them to send me some pictures and pricing... They appeared to be a Kooks ripoff, looked nice in the pictures, but you never really know what kind of quality they are until you get them in your hands... My direct pricing on said headers? $199 a set.  I thought to myself, wow, that's cheap, but would not commit to buying any until I saw the quality and tried a set on a car for fit... They agreed to ship me a set, but since it was only one set air freight was going to be about $500 (vs ~500 by sea for 10+ sets or $50/set shipping) so I passed trying them out, and figured if I really wanted headers I would just buy some from TSP.
Here's another... For the amount of money I have invested so far into creating my own brand CAI, I could have bought about 20 of any of the top dollar brands... There's a reason it costs more money to buy an American product, it's called R&D. |
I do agree RacnJsn95, that $199 would throw red flags Bc nobody has produced anything that cheap.
I am glad you brought up Texas Speed headers Bc for those torn on what header to buy, TSP is a great alternative to OBX and there only about 100 bucks more. It also helps to support the (i buy US only cause) if that's your choice.
As far as kooks buying all the OBX headers. That would be very detrimental to Kooks Bc now they would be selling the so called crap that they hate. So that's why I said make the exact replica of their own header. Design cost are already spent Bc the design is already there. Quality of steel could be monitored so that the comparison of flanges would be put to rest. They would just have lower labor costs to pass on to a consumer that might otherwise buy OBX.
This is what most people don't like the thought of. They feel its giving a job to another country and hurting our economy. The point is you wouldn't be losing ANY jobs for this proposal. You wouldn't gain any either, but you would gain market share in the header economy.
All things made in China are not at the expense of child labor. That's a stereo type. It would be like Chinese calling all Americans terrorist Bc look how they keep shooting their own schools up! Would that be accurate? Of course not. It's absurd! But yet it is happening alot. You find find good and bad in every place.
I just think when people see this debate, they opinionate with their blinders on. STAINLESS WORKS YES THE US BRAND COMPANY DOES INDEED OUTSOURCE ITS LABOR TO CREATE A LOWER COST( yet good quality) HEADER and named it STAINLESS POWER! Yet on the forums NOBODY bad mouths them. It's hypocracy!! But also it's people following the lead of the OBX BASHERS!
