My dad has made a lot of friends on the team. We used to go to any show they had in the Southwestern US and got VIP tickets.

I too am surprised the jet was also able to beat it off the line.

Top gear did a contest between the Veyron and the Eurofighter. Hammond had to drive a mile down the runway and back again. The Eurofighter had to take off, climb a mile vertically, return down the mile, and back down the runway. The plane had double the ground to cover in that test and it still beat the Veyron, though by a slim margin. No surprise the slower ZR-1 (weird to call such a beast "slower") lost when it didn't have the shorter distance advantage.
