but it sounds like this is more of an initial quality survey than a long term reliability one. after all, it's only been out 3 yrs now. anyhow, this is why the domestics continue to lag their foreign competition. I've owned many Japanese cars and have never had a major engine problem. the closest I've ever come is a '90 sentra I had long ago with 212k miles on it and the timing chain guides started to go.
anyway, love my camaro, but after finding out about this I will definitely be the last domestic car I ever buy. how in the hell is it, in this day and age, a major automobile manufacturer cant design a proper engine so now I get to continue driving my car wondering if I'm going to be looking at a $2500 chain replacement down the road. Christ, that kind of crap is the whole reason I stopped buying domestic in the first place.
sorry to vent, just frustrating knowing about this potential issue

Initial quality is just that, when you get your new car what problems occured in the first 90 days. There are several I have read about on here that have near 100,000 miles on their 2010, if you recall they started selling 2010s in early 2009 so many are approaching 4 years on the road. I don't know how you can call that "Initial Quality".
Anyhow you won't be paying for repairs until after the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty is up. So you can stop being paranoid and enjoy your car.
