I believe it started to be recommended after mine snapped. I did a lot of research and posting here and NO ONE suggested changing the chain. I would have if it was even hinted that it would be an issue. It has the C5-R now with an LS2 dampener. Read my "Timing Chain Failure" thread below. The shop did help me out. There is a known issue with 2010 chains. My car was made Oct 2010 for the 2011 model year.
