But riddle me this then going back to my "bad" wedding analogy. If you got married in 1967, wife divorces you and leaves you 2003, and then you dont see her again until 2010 then get remarried. What anniversary would you celebrate in 2012?

An Anniversary celebrates a single event. You would still celebrate your 45th anniversary, although you would only have 37 years of marriage. We recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of putting a man on the moon although to my knowledge we didn't actually send a man to the moon every year so we could celebrate.
