My actual stud walls are 12 ft high and they are sitting on top of about 6" of concrete sticking up above the floor leve around the outside. So I have minimum of 12 ft 6 in ceiling height clearance. Most 2 post lifts will require minimum 12 ft clearance.
If you are looking for maximum versitility in using a lift a 2 post will offer the most versitility. It keeps almost the entire under body of the car open for working on it. A drive on 4 post will end up blocking access to a lot more of the underbody. That's why I went with the 2 post. I am looking to get a 4 post someday but that will mostly be used for storage purposes so I can put one car on top of the other for parking space.
