In my opinion, long gone are the need for dealerships in terms of selling new automobiles.
Consumers should be allowed to simply go to GM.com and place an order for a new vehicle and have it shipped to a dealership of their choosing (that doesn't count against the dealership's allocations).
At that point, the dealership would make their money off of storage costs of the vehicle if it's not picked up immediately, detailing, inspection, etc.
I can buy everything else online; automobile industry needs to catch up =)
