I usually wash my rims first before I wash the rest of my car. I wash them using a separate bucket of wash and a different washcloth from what I use on the rest of the car to prevent scratching my clear coat. After I'm finished with the rims I dump the wash bucket, clean it out, and refill with fresh wash. It takes so long to clean mine that the rest of my would be water spotted before I got a chance to dry it. And I can't dry it before I do the rims otherwise I rick getting water on the car when I rinse. Also Meguires Hot Rims All-Wheel Cleaner works really well as a prewash to get really stubborn grime off.
