I have had a Scosche kit for the last 1.5 years in my 2012 1 LT and I have had no issues with the kit as far as remote range, tire sensor issues and any of the other issues some people have had with the kit.
I don't believe that your installer has the correct information as to GM not letting aftermarket manufacturers get the "factory" software. What is in the car is not rocket science, and most manufacturers can reverse engineer a product to work with the factory systems.
