You are correct, you don't "require" an aftermarket clutch or suspension upgrades. The only reason I mentioned that is the OP mention comparing a L99 and the cost of a aftermarket torque converter driving up the price of a cam install and saying he wished he had bought an LS3 due to that increase in cam swap cost.

Technically an aftermarket torque converter is not "required" on most cams. So if you dont need a clutch, You also dont need a converter.
It's "preferred" tho to optimize your set up.
Just like the majority of guys with LS3 cars will in fact at some point decide that the stock clutch and suspension is not making their combo efficient.

Has nothing to do with if I prefer an auto vs an LS3.
I do know that when you compare apples to apples the end cost is almost a wash on either. The LS3 will put down more power with less drivetrain loss. And the auto will put down less power with better efficiency.

Just trying to help the OP see that it's all good. Not to fret!

But just to be clear, at the "dragstrip" the auto is easier to ET!
