THIS! If you are letting of the gas at the EXACT same time you press the clutch you will "rattle" the drive line and hear the slack in the linkage. Not saying you should feather the clutch, but let the clutch slightly engage before fully letting off gas. Basically just a smoother transition.

Here's an example of when you may here it really pronounced:

You are in first gear and take off from a light
Someone pulls out in front of you unexpectedly
You panic and quickly let off gas, slam clutch, and hit brakes
