Here's an example of when you may here it really pronounced:
You are in first gear and take off from a light 
Someone pulls out in front of you unexpectedly 
You panic and quickly let off gas, slam clutch, and hit brakes

That's it exactly! On the bright side you saved me a trip to the stealership, on the downside I'm stuck with the clunk.
