I changed mine (ls3) at 500 and 1000, 3000, 6000, and 9000. GM LS engines make a lot of metal during break in from my research. That may be overkill but I had a good oil analysis at 9k miles. I think first change at 1500 miles and then follow the OLM would make sense as well. Some manufacturers put special break in additives in the factory fill (eg Honda), but not in the case of our engines as far as I know.
