We have 3 Haltech Sport 2000 systems now running in fifth generation Camaros. Two of which retain factory ECU for idle & dash controls. The third vehicle is running off of the Haltech standalone terminated harness with a Racepak Dashboard.
The Haltech has baro & air temp correction, so now you no longer have to tune the stock ECU for every single type of air/atmosphere when running different racing events. The Haltech also allows for engine protection features that can save the motor when fuel pumps fail, oil pressure goes low, etc.
We run the following features on most units:
- Haltech Sport 2000 EMS w/ Dual Wideband Control
- Add Haltech Boost Control Solenoid for Wastegate control; using for Boost By Gear, delayed ramp-in boost, and engine protection features.
- Tie in fuel pressure, wideband AFR warnings with engine protection features coupled with the wastegate/boost solenoid (i.e. fuel pressure drops below XXpsi, it will open the wastegate and dump boost, OR make a hard ignition cut -- rev limiter)
- Setup with factory PCM's in both cars, so factory dashboard, gauges, abs/tcs, OBD II plug in will still work for driver comfort and inspection.
Let's run down the features of the Haltech.
Although we have run numerous fast quarter mile times on the stock ECU, there are many draw backs to using the factory computer for this purpose. Simply put, the factory PCM focuses on Emissions and drive-ability, wide open throttle is some what a secondary function that is not as controlled as your cruising air fuel ratio is. We have found that with a high HP car that means monitoring these items regularly and making changes throughout the season to keep the car spot on.
ECU's like the Haltech Sport 2000 series, that have been built with running a high HP car as its primary focus, keep its mind set on maintaining WOT conditions. This is crucial to engine longevity, and safeties can be added to change maps in the program based off of, fuel pressure-air fuel ratio-EGT temps-oil pressure, whatever you choose.
Most Corvette or Camaro owners have no interest in gutting the car and rewiring it to a race car status (understandably so), without body modules etc leaving many factory components inoperable including the dash. We have had the pleasure of working with Haltech to integrate the Haltech Sport 2000 series ECU into your Corvette or Camaro to run all the engine controls, while still retaining all your factory components including plug-in OBD II port for safety/emissions inspections.
Haltech offers a completely plug and play patch loom to work with your factory ECU, cutting the installation time down tremendously over all other aftermarket ECU's that you need to splice or intercept connections. The unit is tucked up in the Corvettes or Camaros behind or near the glovebox, with the accessible USB cable in the glovebox to hookup to your laptop when ready.
