In essence nothing is escaping in the system since it is like a vacuum. But yes you do plug the rear PCV fitting is plugged to insure that nothing will escape the motor, in the system everything is metered by the mass air flow sensor and if some air were to escape or enter you can potentially make the fule trims unstable. The way the separator works is by intercepting the PCV line and condensing the oil vapors while slowly trickling them back into your oil fill.
