It's good to have a plan but also things will change. In the military as in any big corporation. Your assignment and people will be a total crap shoot. Could wind up the best.. or the worst. You just won't know till you get there.
My advice would be to go for it and don't look back. But remember it's no cake and there will be a price to pay. Also you can expect a drawdown after the war winds down. So get a job that has civilian skillset you can use just in case. Like Medical or other fields where there are labor shortages coming up.
