From all that I know the 500hp 6.4L HEMI for an upcoming SRT8 challenger is still rumor.
The rumors for the 2010 Mustang include a 5.0L V8 for the base GT, a 6.2L V8for a potential Boss edition, and even the twin turbo V6 that others have talked about.
A smaller engine a 5.0L vs a 6.0L for instance, will require some revving to make power usually, but gearing and higher redlines usually make up for what is lost in low end torque.
A perfect example is the new BMW M3 with the tiny 4.0L V8. It only makes 295 ft-lbs of torque, but it is still a 12 second car trapping around 110 mph.
Oh of course a brand new 2010 Camaro will outclass a 2005 Mustang. Wait until the next Mustang comes out to make the comparision.....the camaro will still probably be better, but all the same.
Only time will tell...
