I really appreciate the good advice I have received, since this car will be with me for a very long time I will err on the side of caution. I think the thing that is really confusing is the synthetic part, if this was regular oil it would be 3k and change, but with todays oil who knows.

My truck 2500HD Duramax has an OLM system as well and the dealer says not to change it till the OLM says so, says my warranty will not be voided if I do that.

I will get my oil changed at 1000 miles and see how it goes from there, I think from what I have read that if you keep a check on it, color wise, and depending on your driving will dictate how often to change it. For me the car is not a daily driver, and for now it is just a few short trips to break in properly, you know varing speeds and all that.
I do plan on taking some longer trips maybe 3 or 4 hour trips in the future, but definetly next spring and summer.

I do not feel that you can really hurt this car with the oil changes, I have a 1992 Honda Civic, I know Iknow, that I use to go back and forth to work. The car has 178000 miles and the oil is changed at 7500 miles because I run synthetic in it and have had no problems, don't know if it is because of the maintenance or because the little Honda is bullet proof. Now the little car has about 100 hp and is hardly ever drove over 60 mph, and still gets 39 to 41 mpg.

My other truck is a 1985 Chevy had 497000 miles on it, change the oil at 7500 because of synthetic, and have had no problems, does not use a drop of oil, and was recently drove to California and back( 2800 miles), pulling a trailer that had 3 motorcycles.

While I may have a little experience with oil changes I know that it is always wise to seek others opinions. Thanks for all your help.
