"Purpose-Built Track Car"

Overlooked, publicly, in all this chat is a true predecessor. Anyone remember hearing about the GM-Canada Motorsports/Player's Challenge race series conceived and managed by GM-Canada, that ran from 1986-'92?

1) It spawned the original 1LE Camaro and Firebird

2) It spawned the sedan-racing careers of Ron Fellows, David Empringham, and Scott Maxwell, as well as many others, with guest appearances by Paul Tracy and Scott Goodyear, amongst others...

3) Each car showed up at the local dealer, brand new...with a roll cage and racing seat and harness already installed...and included on the A4Q- or R7U-equipped window sticker

4) A/C not included

5) $5,000 for 1st Place, per race, pretty decent money in the late-'80s

Now THIS would make owning a Z/28 "interesting", if GM proposed such a deal, again...

(the original option code was directed @ Mustang owners in Canada: "Eh! 4Q!")
