When I hit a pole, my insurance paid for the damage to it. If things are as they should be the driver's (joyrider) insurance should pay for it. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a d_ _ n about the pole though. I don't mean any harm but Just sayin'. They will replace the pole with one just like the one that was standing there before.
I think folks here are getting more riled up than need be. The issus is not really if he should get a brand new car or a used one. The issue is more that the dealership needed to step up in this case & bend over backwards to compensate this customer for a horrible, upsetting & outrageous incident that cost him his beloved ZL1. They needed to jump on this & from the onset let him know how badly they feel & make clear their intent to make it right. Then proceed to negotiate with him to find a way to make him feel as good as possible about the outcome. Nothing, not even a brand new ZL1 is going to make it all better.
Yes, we have only one side of the story. We don't really know the OP. His comments here have seemed relatively calm & reasonable, but we don't know how he was to the dealer or what the dealer actually said to him. I do feel that if the dealer had been open to conversations/negotiations with the OP, it would be likely we would have never have heard form the OP here. For all we know, asking for a brand new car may be the OP's way of countering a low ball offer of the dealer much like most negotiations over price go.
I think it is very clear that the dealer has responsibility to make amends & that it is not simply a matter for the OP's insurance.
Can't we all just get along?????? I think we all feel terrible for the OP & want him to have back as close to what he arrived at the dealership with as is possible. Is that not what we ALL should be uniting to try to accomplish? How did this turn into an arguement. Enough of that already.
