Well, where you can do a shower wall even a kitchen floor by hitting a few lines (or rows of dabs) of adhiesive and then just pressing everything into place, for a floor install you butter both the floor and the backs of the tiles. It's not rocket science (at least, I hope it's not), but you make sure there are no voids under the tiles. If it's solid ceramic/porcelain over (pretty much) solid thinset over solid concrete, then it should be a very solid floor. Like concrete, tiles are strong in compression but brittle and weak in tension.

(Full disclosure: I had never touched tile before that and haven't done a whole lot since. But the floor has held up to over 5 years of abuse so far.)
