There comes a point where the VVT should be eliminated but in the case of many street cars keeping it is a nice feature. Like mentioned above the money saved on an LS3 conversions can be put towards a higher stalled torque converter which is one of the best mods you can do on an L99 car. As far as the cam is concerned the VVT will allow you to do more with less and keep the powerband a bit more steady. While a bigger cam will make more top end power.
