If they are leaking you'll want to get them repaired as soon as you can. What will happen as the fluid leaks out is the nitrogen pressure will decrease. This decrease in pressure is going to cause cavitation around the piston as it goes through it's stroke. The cavitation is going to cause pitting on the valve stack and performance is going to drastically reduce. Have you ever seen a boat prop after some use? They look like someone took a miniature ball peen hammer to the backside of the blades. That's what some of the parts on the inside of the shock will look like.
