Your example is correct, your theory is slightly incorrect. If you take a specific converter, lets say a 3600 Circle D and you run it unlocked, then you run it again locked, yes you will pull a better mph locked.
BUT every locked converter in general will not always outperform a very efficient unlocked converter. It's all in how its tuned and much slip you have! Terry's converter has very little slip, therefore it is making good mph
all the way down the track. Think of it like he's damn near locked in all 4 gears.
Where as, I'm slipping in 2.5 gears and dead locked in 1.5 gears.
