I have had kooks in the past however the only thing that makes me want to go with american racing is that if I want to go with borla or corsa as my exhaust then you can only buy the headers and connection pipes from kooks then a catabck from the other two companies. Unless you planning on buying a complete exhaust down through the mufflers kooks Xpipes will not connect to a borla or corsa axle back system they only connect to there own mufflers.
so if I have to buy headers and connection tubes from kooks and a catback from borla my xpipe which is part of the borla catback of course is going to be 2.5inch pipe.
I think ARH offers headers , 3inch x pipe that you can that you can attach an axle back from etiher borla or corsa.
I want headers , 3 inch xpipe and borla mufflers and the only way I see that happening is if I go with ARH because kooks xpipes only connect to there mufflers.

In the case of the L99, I want as much low end torque as possible. I don't mind losing a little top end HP, to get more torque down low to get off the line faster.

IF your car is not heavily modded then you will want 1 3/4 by using 1 7/8 you will lose quite a bit of low end torque.
