FYI: The optional 5 spoke wheels are supposedly 11lb lighter then 10 spoke std. But I must admit I didn't weigh them myself.
Bottom line: somebody quoted a comment made by a GM engineer about the 2.87 second diff at Milford, as well as Pete has suggested the same: the time gain is chiefly due to tires. And that the car would benefit from another 100HP. In a nutshell, this mirrors my point exactly.
