Yes it is safe. Most amp have fuse on them or in them so if there is a problem with the unit or amp they will blow. The fuse is to protect the wire if there was a dead short betwen the batter and the amp this would stop that car from catching fire that way it should be close to the batter no more then 13 inc away.
