the car has an electric fan, thats how it works

it cuts on and off due to coolant temperature the reason it doesn't come on when you start it is because it is letting the car warm up to operating temp.and when your sitting at idle the car will get hot rather quickly because air isn't flowing through the radiator naturally. hence the fan and why its there

and having a/c on has nothing to do with it, unless your hearing the compressor


older cars that have a mechanical fan does this buy having a temp sensitive clutch on it. if you pop a hood on a car that has one when its cold out side you can see the fan spinning rather slowly compared to days when its hot out side
