I started out with a 2011 2SS/RS convertible and moved up to the ZL1 convertible when it came out, so I have had both cars.
You can certainly spend money modding the SS to get more power, but remember you'll never recover that money if/when you sell the car, AND as you know, it will no longer be covered by warranty for the most part.
The ZL1 on the other hand, will give you the power you seek, along with everything else the ZL1 has going for it, from the transmission/shifter to the mag ride, etc, etc all covered by the GM warranty.
But the ZL1 is not cheap by any stroke of the imagination, from the cost of the car itself, to the gas and tires it will consume.
Pocketbook aside, ZL1 wins every time.

I have 2010 SS LS3 with a MagnaCharger & all the bolt on making 635rwhp & 2012 ZL1 & believe me it is a totally different car to drive.
