Yes it needs to be white. Sunrise Yellow is a pearl paint and pearls need the white base coat.

I would be happy with a paintjob that emulated the look, was durable and half the cost, I.E. stock Rally Yellow or perhaps even Velocity is good enough for me and my road car

Yea after figuring out the total cost I decided the factory Rally Yellow is close enough for me.
