It's mostly to keep them looking pretty.. The coating does keep the engine bay cooler, but that doesn't really translate into any performance benefits. We run the uncoated out on the road course and have never had a problem with anything melting/overheating etc.

You will want to go with the factory conection if you want it to connect to your stock cat-back.
