The reasoning is fairly sound minus the fact that the 427's you revered were
"big blocks" and that a big block 427 would give you gobs more torque than the small block version. Plus the "old school" big block has much thicker walls and head room for build up. Other than that, it does provide a link to the "number" 427 if that is what provokes the emotion you seek! It is workable, but in a slightly different context (in that it is still a variant of the small block).
Now, I am not judging the engines by any means. Choice for me would also be the small block version (FYI). As it comes with all the hardcore internals and design!
