For a $160k base Supercar, it could not outlap anything in it's price range.
It simply wasn't engineered enough. A pretty car with a bunch of HP does not guarantee it will behave.
The final year of the GT was 2006. When compared to the Z06 of that year, there was no metric that the GT was superior at other than peak speed and looks. Most notably the brakes were not any better than the Mustang. The Viper was even a valid challenger to the GT.
However, the GT's MSRP was 2.5 times that of the Vette, and twice that of the Viper. But actual market price was over $200k for the GT.
What could you get for 200k in 2006? Well the Porsche turbo 997 AWD was $125k and the same weight as the GT. The sweet, sweet Ferrari F430 was $174k.
