This may sound insane but I insist on waxing any car I buy before I pull off the lot. I also request to use an inside bay to do it as dings and scratches stand out in enclosed environments. It's very disappointing to pull into your garage at home to discover a low hanging door ding. I am careful to check all mold lines (doors, hood, trunk, etc.) for proper alignment. If I discover anything that requires repair/adjustment I reschedule delivery to allow me to inspect the repair before I pass the cash.
