Comp cam @ 5,000 miles
I figured I would pass along this info for those of you who have had the same kind of cam whine as I have had. These pictures were taken with 5,000 miles on this cam since new. The lobes are LSL and the lift is under .625
I had whine from day one and seemed to get a bit worse towards the end, the reason why I took it out... This was also ran with a single beehive spring nothing aggressive there. It's hard to make out in the pictures but as you see where the lifter was following the cam there seems to be what looks like ridges or chatter in the contact area. You can't feel the ridge with your fingernail but it's visible.
So, right or wrong I chose to just change the cam and took a chance not changing the lifters. VIOLA..No more cam whine with a different cam manufacturer. I will more then likely change the lifters when the heads come off this winter.
My set-up was run with LS30 oil from day one, so I'd like to think that's not a contributing factor in this.
Take this for what it's worth, just wanted to make you aware of what you may be up against if you have the whine like I did. Remember this was only 5,000 miles on this stick.
