You had to have decent credit when 0% was offered, and usually it was in lieu of rebates. Many folks who signed for 0%/72 mos ended up damn near sticker price anyhow.

Hmmmmm, no gimmick here, I have crappy credit and when 0% was offered to me I told them I wouldn't qualify, they told me it was through GM and so everyone qualifies.
I didnt have to give up any rebates either, still got $2500 in rebates.
I didn't pay full sticker either, three grand was knocked off sticker price.
I drove a hard bargain with GM, because I wasn't desparate for the car, and it took a whole two months of negotiating and patience.....ya if you go in and look desparate then GM has you by the short hairs....

See what I just wrote above......when they have the 0% incentive everyone qualifies, just do your research and make sure they dont screw you some other way, I did not agree to the deal untill I was totally satisfied
