Lots of guys race with a passenger in their car. Most don't realize that the passenger is worth about .2 or so in the 1/4 mile (-20hp).
Especially guys street racing. One person will ride along to film the race. The car with the passenger filming is at about a 2 car length disadvantage in a full length race.
Also, the lighter your car the more a reduction or increase in weight will affects it (higher % of its overall weight) A lighter car (WRX for example), will be more affected by an increase of 100 lbs than a 4200 lb car.
