When we were data logging the mile I had my limiter pushed to 7000 and with 1200whp worth of mods on the car the tach is the only way to know when to shift. It continued to build power right to the point it cut fuel (or the throttle body would flutter) and if you shift early it cost a few mph down the track.
I'm sorry but look at 90% of the dyno sheets on these cars and none of them go flat. That means there is no perceivable change in power right up until the fuel is off and by the time you register your car is slowing down and then bang a shift....it is slower.
