Basic White Underhood LED Lighting

I'm not a electrical guru by any means and am very conservative when it comes to car wiring. I want to add a simple LED light under the hood, not for show, but something like the old Buicks use to have where you can actually see the whole engine compartment in case of a breakdown at night. I want it to look utilitarian, yet modern. Was thinking about these flexible LED's mounted on the bottom side of the hood. Has anyone used something like this, or have other suggestions. They're $9.50 for two and I plan to use a waterproof swith near the fuse box. 18 guage wire? 2.5 amp in-line fuse running off power bolt to fuse box? Thanks.
