People on here are worried about beating the Hellcat. GM will get there but the new 6 gen camaro will be out then that generation ZL1/Z28 will need to come down the pipeline. Best guess - 2017!!!!
So if you want to own a ZL1 AND beat a Hellcat - you need to mod it.
I have modded cars and sold them plenty of times before. it takes the right buyer and therefore takes a little longer to sell but you can get a fair amount out of it.
If you are worried about resale value - then dont do a damn thing but also dont worry about being slower than a hellcat either

You dont need to mod a ZL1. Bring that fat kitty cat to my track we will race. I run an 11.7 now stock so bring that fat cat on and quit talking about it! I'll spank it's butt and you all can go on about your daily lives..........I'm getting ready to mod my ZL1 so you better hurry up.
