When an air pocket hits the stock pump it automatically turns off so it won't run dry and get destroyed. Once the pump turns off you just keep driving with no coolant circulation and if there is coolant in the inter cooler it will eventually boil if it is not circulating making the problem worse. I recommend getting a reservoir and checking the level regularly because the air eventually circulates into the reservoir.

I plan to get the D3 reservoir and the Ron Davis heat exchanger is on my to do list also down the road.
