Just go to shows that have your class in it. Most of the shows I go to have a class for our cars and most of the people there are very respectful. I find it very funny when some one is not. One guy had a 69 camaro ss with a ls3 and all new suspension, digital read outs in the dash etc... who said new cars don't belong in a show?(even though there was a class for them) His was newer then mine just had a 69 body. Very few people do there own work anymore. Most of the older muscle cars I see are shop built and have new modern engines , ecu, brakes etc... very nice cars but those cars are just as new. the old school guys who keep them original and do the work themselves have always have been very respectful around my area. I also agree keeping out specific cars in a show for charity only hurts the charity.
