Both are great as far as enduring long trips. Elevation and air density will affect performance. Especially humidity. PD blowers are subject more to heat soak. While cruising though, you're not really in boost with a centri until you hit about 2500RPM, so if you're cruising at 70, you're not gonna see a difference in MPG as compared to running N/A. PD blowers are absolutely great for making power down low. No matter where you are in the powerband, once you hit the gas, you will take off. The downside is that once you hit peak boost, that's it. You're not going to accelerate any faster. Centri's can do the same, but you need to be at a much higher RPM level, and as long as you stay within boost when shifting, you'll continue to build boost. Don't expect to take off at a low RPM. Take this into consideration though, as much as I am an advocate of centri blowers, looking at your location, you may want to look into a turbo kit. You'll have a little lag, but environmental factors won't affect turbos as much as they do with S/C. As example, I was tuned at 20 psi at sea level. When I went racing and datalogged, I lost 3 lbs. because I was at a higher elevation where the air is thinner. Blowers like denser air. Turbos don't care because it builds boost off of the exhaust. To compensate for the boost loss, I dropped a pulley size and gained the lost boost back at a higher elevation.
