There are cheaper clones of the 1911, I have a R.I. full size w/ tac rail, too big for edc but a dependable truck gun, and my son has a R.I. compact very similar to my Kimber.

Kimber is top shelf parts and built to higher tolerance than the RI's, so much so, that the Kimber doesn't like to run dirty, but is more accurate. The RI is a dirty girl, but dependable and accurate enough for edc.

The Kimber has needed nothing in three years, the RI needed safety work, but otherwise a fine shooter.
