Volume. Corvettes, without Camaro offspring to "assist" in building volume, and therefore price rationalization, would be an even more expensive car than they already are, or have been. Bang for the buck, Corvette is terrific value. Always has been. And, since '67, Camaro had fully assisted the Corvette in that perpetual, and successful, quest.
Take a look at "outrageously expensive" Corvettes. BOTH ZR1s come to mind. Were their engines available in the much more voluminous Camaro? No. Coincidence? No.
