5 month Runaround
I bought my car on June 11th of this year. I left the dealer with it the same day only to later notice that my owners manual was missing. I went back the next day to ask for it or a free replacement. They tried to blame me for it. After telling the manager, asking for the regional manager, etc they finally said they will order one for me.
Fast forward to a month later, nothing. I ask again only to hear that it was something I should have checked before leaving the lot. I have it downloaded but that is not the point.
So now I hit 3500 miles and want to take it in for my free oil change. They have no record of the three free oil changes and the salesman suddenly has amnesia. The copy that I have is "void" because it says it is a copy...OF AN ORIGINAL ON FILE.
That's okay, an oil change is a pleasure and is cheap. Quality time together.
Now my temp tags expire....Long story short, my state DMV (MVA) refused my tag application from the dealer on June 20th. The dealer knew this 9 days after I got my car when I had 51 days left to resolve this issue. So permanent tags would not be mailed to the dealer. They recieved a refund for $182 and held on to it. They mailed it and it was lost in the mail.
Again, stuff happens. It was their fault for sending it to MO instead of MD but that is fine. Checks can be canceled and reissued. Right?
Nope!
I had to drive to six different dealerships that they own, make phone calls, send emails, drive to their bank, drive to my bank, then go back. After 3.5 months I got my refund A few days ago. On the way out I asked about the Owner's Manual again...They said that they could order one if I had a credit or debit card.
My family has bought two Chevy's from this chain. It was highly regarded in our household and among friends. I did shop around but the first stop was here.
At the time that I finally recieved my check I was in charge of recommending a dealer for my employer to place a fleet order with. I went back to the dealer, showed them our 18 vehicle list (total of 26 to be replaced) and all of the options that we needed. When they asked if we were ready to start paperwork my manager mentioned that a competing dealer gave us a virtually identical deal and we would be going where the service is better and "where our vehicles are not missing manuals."
I later found out that his daughter and a cousin both had bad experiences with the same dealer that involved a small claims lawsuit to be settled and GM corporate intervention for the other.
I will never buy anything from this dealer again. They offered a discount on the manual if it makes everything right. I cannot believe that, a DISCOUNT.
