Actually from what I have seen and read from experiences the Res X Pipe is better at quieting things down than the stock Res.

The stock res is completely hollow inside, its just a can with a pipe in and a pipe out. The Res X has baffling etc to help cut down volume.

I agree maybe he should let himself get used to it for a while, then make his decision.

Also when he takes it for tuning he can hear the car from outside, and get a better sense of what others hear. HAHA...I will add that this didn't help for me, as all I realized is how deafening my car is with the NPP flaps open.
